Is everyone ready to go back to work!? I had a wonderful, restful spring break and I hope everyone else did too! Whether we like it or not, it's time to return to work and finish out this year. And that means...testing time is upon us!
EOG Tests for 5th grade will occur the 3rd week of May (15th-18th)Remember, 5th graders have 4 days of testing this year, due to the science exam. 5A and 5B will begin serious work preparing for these tests. Please make sure your student has completed as many pages as possible in their Competitive Edge book, we will use it to review. 5C will also practice test-taking skills and review, using the pre-EOG booklets they used to test with in February.
This week and next, Neuse and the rest of the state will be field testing for the Common Core curriculum that is to be implemented next year. This means, students will be taking mock-EOG's that cover material from the common core to see how well students are doing with regards to the new curriculum. I don't have a finalized schedule yet, so I am not sure when 5th grade will be testing. Please make sure your child is rested and well-fed for these tests. It is good practice for the actual tests.
There will be no new vocabulary this week but we will be reviewing words, roots, prefixes and suffixes. Homework is the same, reading and writing a summary or the final chapter in Competitive Edge. This will be the last week to get homework credit for Competitive Edge.
The Talent Show is this Friday, April 20th. We will have 2 rehearsals this week, one on Tuesday and a dress rehearsal on Thursday. I will be asking 4-5 responsible students to assist me this week and the night of the Talent Show. Helpers will be asked to wear a white dress shirt and dark pants to the show.
Tickets to the Neuse Charter Has Talent Show are available! Tickets are $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students (before school in Brindle or Berner's room). Dinner will be available at the show and what a bargain it is! A hot-dog, chips and a soda for $3.00. Candy for $1.00. This is a fund-raiser for a variety of English department activities! The show begins at 5:30, intermission at about 6:30 for socializing and dinner and then final contestants will perform. There will be art displayed from Mrs. Layton's classes and the quilts and masks that our students worked on during Black History Month will also be proudly shown off! This will be a terrific event, please plan to attend.
Reminder: Your student should carry his/her book for the book report with them at all times! We will begin writing the essay in class next week, if the schedule allows.
Please keep an eye on the blog. We will probably have several schedule changes, due to testing, and I will post them here if they effect our students.
